Join us at the Rancho to hear John R. Baker talk about his book “Vice: One Cop’s Story of Patrolling America’s Most Dangerous City.” The Compton Police Department, never more than 130-strong faced an army of criminals that numbered over 10,000. John R. Baker was raised in Compton, eventually becoming the city’s most decorated police officer, involved in some of its most notorious, horrifying, and scandalous criminal cases. Baker’s account of Compton from 1951 to 2011 is one of the most powerful and compelling cop memoirs ever written.
John R. Baker will be giving a talk about his experiences and about the book. He will be joined by two of his Compton Police Department colleagues whom he credits helping him in his work and in his career: Dominic Rutigliano and David Arellanes. The talk will conclude with Stephen Rivele, who co-wrote the book with John.
There will be a book signing afterwards and a light refreshment reception. There is a $4 suggested donation.
The talk is 1pm to 3pm in the carriage house. We hope to see you there!
