Volunteer Opportunities at Dominguez Rancho
Support the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum by joining our volunteer family. Each of the five different areas offer wonderful opportunities to learn about the Rancho, share history with the public, and interact with a fantastic volunteer group. Volunteer hours are available Tuesday through Saturday. There is a volunteer opportunity for every schedule and interest. All volunteer positions include training and supervision by museum staff.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:
Public Tour Docents: Public Tour Docents conduct museum tours for drop-in visitors of all ages and for scheduled group tours of all types. Docents present the story of the Rancho San Pedro, the Dominguez family, and the 1910 International Aviation Meet within the context of Southern California development. Tours are given the first Thursday and Friday of each month and every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday at 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.
School Tour Docents: School Tour Docents conduct museum tours for classes from third grade to adult. School tours are interactive in nature and include a question and answer format and activities to engage students and promote learning. Tours are scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 9:30am to 11:30am.
The 2012 Spring Docent training session will be offered in February/March. The training session consist of four classes beginning February 11, 2012 with additional training activities. Docent training sessions can also be scheduled by appointment.

Curatorial/Conservation Volunteers: Curatorial/Conservation volunteers assist museum staff in research projects, conservation of the collections, and the inventory and cataloging of the collections. Specific and ongoing training in both collections care and conservation is provided by museum staff.
Administrative Volunteers: Administrative volunteers provide clerical assistance for museum staff in a variety of ways in the museum. Volunteers assist with special event mailings, quarterly newsletters, phone assistance and special projects. Specific and ongoing training is provided by museum staff.
Special Event Volunteers: Special event volunteers work with museum staff in creating, managing and setting up small and large special events ranging from craft activities on Sundays for children to large events for the public.

Docent Training Sessions
Docent training will be offered in February/March. The training class consists of four sessions beginning February 11, 2012. All classes are 9am to 12pm.
A Docent Training Manual has been prepared and will be used during the classes. Following the training series, there will be bi-monthly Docent meetings to review, discuss, improve, learn more, and have fun. These meetings will include guest speakers and field trips.
