The mission of the Friends of Rancho San Pedro is to preserve and increase community awareness of early California history as it relates to the Dominguez family, homestead adobe and the Rancho San Pedro, the first Spanish land grant in California. This is accomplished through educational programs and the operation of the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum.

Battle of Dominguez Hill Reenactment

On October 9th, the Museum will be hosting its 2nd Battle of Dominguez Hill Reeanctment, part of the Mexican American War. This year marks the 163rd anniversary of the battle. Admission is free!

Two battles will be staged  at 12pm and 3pm and Solider encampments will be open to the public on the day of the reenactment. In between the battles there will be a costume fashion show and Fandango dancing.  Food and Mercantile vendors will be on hand. Parking is available on-site and the event is handicapped accessible.

Docent Training

Join us for the 2010 Fall Docent training that will be offered in September and October.  The training session consists of four classes beginning September 12th, with addition training activities.  Part of the training session involves meeting with other docents at an outing for all docents.

Fall Session Schedule:

1st class – September 12th

2nd class – September 26th

3rd class – October 10th

4th class – October 24th

Dominguez and Sepulveda Families and the Orgin’s of the Today’s Harbor Area

On February 13th at 1pm, Join Jim Stanbery, a professor of history at Harbor College and a member of the San Pedro Bay Historical Society as he tells the story of two of California’s pioneering families and the growth of the Los Angeles Harbor area that includes the modern-day cities of San Pedro, Wilmington, and Harbor City.

Ice Cream Social

Join us on Sunday, August 15th for our 2nd annual ice cream social.  Eat ice cream, popcorn, and cotton candy while you listen to a barbershop quartet.  The quartet will perform at 12pm. We will have fun family activities for everyone to enjoy.  The cost is only $5 per person.

Mother’s Day Tea

Join us for our 3rd annual Mother’s Day Tea, which will be held on Saturday, May 8.  Stroll through the rose garden, listen to beautiful guitar music and enjoy the story of the Dominguez family told through flamenco dance.  Space is limited so make your reservations soon.  The cost is $10 per person.
