The mission of the Friends of Rancho San Pedro is to preserve and increase community awareness of early California history as it relates to the Dominguez family, homestead adobe and the Rancho San Pedro, the first Spanish land grant in California. This is accomplished through educational programs and the operation of the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum.

Docents Needed!!!

Docents are needed to help lead our guest through the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum for both private and regular tours. Tours are interactive in nature and include a question and answer format with activities to engage students and promote learning. Docents receive a 10% discount from the gift shop, attend free field trips and are invited to our appreciation banquets!

The first class will begin August 26, 2017 starting at 1:30pm through 3:30pm

UC California Naturalist Certification Course: Fall 2017

Do you enjoy learning about the natural world? Would you like to learn about the amazing and unique ecology of California? If so, consider becoming a California Naturalist!

These classes cover the natural and cultural history of California, with an in-depth look at our South Bay ecology. Through field trips, classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, participants will observe and learn about the variety of plant and animal communities of our region. Through the course, participants will learn tools to hone their observation skills and will improve their communication skills by sharing knowledge with other participants and by working on a group project.

Meeting Days & Times:  September 9 to December 16. The classes will be held every Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm with the exception of November 11 and 25. The days include three Saturday field trips which will be held for extended hours (10/7, 11/18, and 12/9).

Fee: The cost for the course is $300. Students must purchase The California Naturalist Handbook (2013, UC Press). Four UC academic credits available upon completion for an additional fee.

Speaker Series 2017: Gustavo Arellano

Join us at our second speaker series of the year set on June 17, 2017 at 11:30am. The adobe will host Mr. Gustavo Arellano who will be presenting his latest book, Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America.

“Nationally syndicated columnist and bestselling author of ¡Ask a Mexican! Gustavo Arellano presents a tasty trip through the history and culture of Mexican food in this country, uncovering great stories and charting the cuisine’s tremendous popularity north of the border. Arellano’s fascinating narrative combines history, cultural criticism, food writing, and personal anecdotes.”

Following the presentation there will be a book signing session. So please come on down and join us on this day.
