Save the Grotto Day on April 20th

Join us for “Save the Grotto Day’ from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, April 20! This volunteer event is the perfect way to celebrate Earth Day. We are looking for individuals and groups who don’t mind getting a little dirty. We need people to help clean, clear debris, and prune overgrown vegetation from the garden beds, walkways and once-flowing waterfalls of this hidden oasis on a shaded hill behind the museum For more information or to sign up for this event, please call (310) 603-0088 today.

6th Annual Spring Tea on April 27th

Our fantastic annual spring tea is back this year and is on Saturday, April 27th at 11am. Join us for a scrumptious tea lunch, music and dancing. This year’s performance will be the very talented Folklorico Faisan, a children’s folklorico group.

The tea starts at 11am and tickets are only $22 per person. The price of the ticket includes the tea lunch, entertainment and a photo opportunity. Enjoy the beauty of the Rancho grounds this April. Garden Tour on March 23rd

Join us this Saturday, March 23rd at 11am for our beautiful garden tour. Explore hidden grottos, orchards, and more. Take a peaceful stroll through the Rose Garden and Cactus Garden. Enjoy seeing hundreds of various flowering plants, succulents, and trees thriving all over the Rancho. It will be a wonderful tour in a beautiful place.

Rosie the Riveter and Women’s History Talk on 3/16 @ 1pm

Discover Rosie the Riveter’s Local Story on Saturday, March 16th @ 1pm

The museum is celebrating women’s history month with ta talk by Long Beach City Council Member Gerrie Schipske who will be speaking about women’s history and the local influence of Rose the Riveter. She is the author of “Rose the Riveter in Long Beach,” which chronicles the experiences of thousands of women who worked at the U.S. Army-financed Douglas Aircraft plant in Long Beach during World War II.

There will be a reception, featuring light refreshments and book signing that will follow the lecture. The book will also be available for purchase.

There is a suggested donation of $4 for the talk. We hope to see you there.

Gold Panning this Saturday at 1pm

Relive the Gold Rush as you pan for gold. Will you be able to find some gold nuggest or be fooled by the fool’s gold. Learn the history of California and gold panning at this fun activity.

There will be gold panning, an assayer’s station where you can trade your gold for merchandise, an exhibit of gold panning equipment used in the 1800s, a talk on gold panning, and a scavenger hunt. Take home some treats and hopefully a piece of gold as well. Who knows?

The activity is 1pm to 3pm. There is NO admission charge, however donations are always accepted. We hope to see you there.

Join us for our once a month garden tour on March 23rd at 11am. Explore the Rancho’s rose garden, cactus garden, grottos and more. Learn about the plant species that inhabit the Rancho grounds and the history of the gardens. This tour is only offered once a month so we hope to see you there.

Gold Panning on March 2nd from 1pm to 3pm. Fun for all ages!

Speaker Series: “Rosie the Riveter and Women’s History” at 1pm on March 16th. The talk will be given by Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, who has written a book on Rosie the Riveter.

2013 is just around the corner and it is shaping up to be a great year. Check our our events page to see all the activities that are planned. The first few are:

Candle Making Workshop on January 19th, 1pm to 3pm
Docent training starts on January 12th (see calendar for complete list of dates)
Gold Panning and more on March 2nd, 1pm to 3pm
“Rosie the Riveter and Women’s History” talk on March 16th, 1pm to 3pm
Save the Grotto Day on April 20th, 10am to 3pm
Spring Tea on April 27th, 11am to 1pm

Living History Afternoon this Saturday!

Explore the Rancho this holiday season on Saturday, 12/8 from 3pm to 5pm. The adobe is decorated with lights and holiday decorations only once a year and it is a beautiful sight to see. There will be:

Tours led by the Dominguez sisters and their friends
Holiday craft making
Music and dancing
Appetizers and desserts from Mexico and Spain
Visit with Santa
Toy drive to help our local community

Then at 5pm is the Las Posadas procession outside the adobe. There will be festivities for all!
