California Naturalist Classes Start Again January 23rd – Register Now!

Do you enjoy learning about the natural world?   Would you like to learn about the amazing and unique ecology of California?  If so, consider becoming a California Naturalist!

The Museum is hosting its 2nd California Naturalist program in the South Bay beginning January 23rd and running through April 30th.

California Naturalist volunteers complete a 40-hour hands-on course with expert instructors and fellow learners – studying natural history, environmental interpretation, and conservation stewardship.

These classes cover the natural and cultural history of California, with an in-depth look at our South Bay ecology. Through field trips, classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, participants will observe and learn about the variety of plant and animal communities of our region. Through the course, participants will develop their ability to observe nature and will learn tools to improve these skills. In addition, participants will improve their communication skills by sharing knowledge with other participants and by working on a group project.

The classes will be held every Saturday from 10:00am- 1:00pm from late January through late April and include 3 field trips whose places have yet to be determined.   The cost for the course is $300.  Please see the attached flyer and registration form or click the “Register Online Now!” button to register online.

6/20 – Paint a Pot

7/18 – Mosaics and More

8/15 – Herbs and More

All the classes are free and open to all ages and are 1pm to 3pm.

The museum participates in Old Fort MacArthur Days in July

The museum is excited to participate for the 6th year in Old Fort MacArthur  Days at Fort MacArthur Museum in San Pedro.   The hours of this year’s show are 10am–4pm on July 11th and 12th. This is the 1st year the museum is participating as full period camp.  The theme is the early 1800s or Spanish Colonial period in California.  What does this mean?  It means that the camp will represent this period down to the tiniest detail.  There will be no cell phones, plastic water bottles etc.  Come out and see the museum’s camp and the other wonderful camps.
