Huntington and the 1910 Air Meet

Come to the Rancho and listed to Keith McDonald give a talk about Henry Huntington and his involvement in the 1910 Air Meet.  Huntington moved to Los Angeles in 1901/1902 and developed the Red Trolly line.  He became very interested in the 1910 Air Meet and Keith’s talk is about Huntington, the man himself, his history and his interest in the Air Meet and how he contributed.

Huntington and the 1910 Air Meet

Join us at the Museum this Saturday, the 25th, at 1pm to hear Keith McDonald give a talk on Huntington and his involvement in the 1910 Air Meet. Learn about Huntington, his history and his interest in the air meet and how he contributed. There will be light refreshments served.

“The Gordon Bennett Airplane Races” at Flight Path Museum

Join us on September 23rd at 10am for a talk by Michael Gough about the Gordon Bennett air races of the 1910s, whose trophy, the Gordon Bennett, led to the 1910 Los Angeles International Air Meet. He will emphasize some events of about 100 years ago and relationships among the Gordon Bennett race of 1909, held in France; the Dominguez Air Meet of 1910, and the 1910 Gordon Bennett, held at Belmont Park Racetrack, Long Island, New York. This is a rare opportunity to learn about the races and the trophy that brought aviation to Southern California.

The talk is at 10am at the Flight Path Museum at LAX. The address is 6661 West Imperial Highway, Los Angeles.

Adobe featured in Mural at Dominguez Hills

On September 9th California State University, Dominguez Hills unveiled “Manifest Diversity,” a mural that was created by students under the guidance of muralist Eliseo Art Silva. The large-scale work is now on view in the Multicultural Center with its depiction of a multi-ethnic view of American history from Pre-Colombian Native Americans to the present-day struggle for social justice in health care, immigrant rights, and other issues of social justice. When viewed from a distance, the shapes, details and colors of the singular images combine to form the profiles of Sojourner Trust, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Cesar Chavez, President Obama and Filipino patriot Dr. Jose Rizal. It is a magnificent work and it is an honor for the Adobe and the Dominguez family to be depicted in the mural. Please see the  photos to see the mural and the Adobe depicted within it.

Stained Glass Workshop

Join us on Sunday the 19th for our “Stained Glass Art” workshop where people are taught how to make their own beautiful stained glass art piece. You will have the opportunity to create your own 1910 hot air balloon. It is fun, entertaining and free! The workshop starts at 1pm. We hope to see you there.
