Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum

Join us in July for two events being held at the Museum:

On July 17th at 1pm  there will be  a talk on the history of transportation in early California leading up to the 1910 Aviation Meet.  Walter Bethel will give a talk on the different modes of transportation in Los Angeles and their impact on the growth of California.  Light refreshments will be served.

On July 25th, come learn how to make a kite!  The kite was the predecessor to the glider, which eventually led to planes.  At 1pm on the 25th, everyone will have a chance to make their own kite and fly and race them on the grounds.  The contests will be judged by one of the 1910 pilots and the Dominguez daughters.  There will be prizes for everyone!!

Join us on June 12, 2010 at the Rancho as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1910 International Los Angeles Air Meet that happened on the Dominguez Air Field.  There will be a static car and plane display, tethered balloon rides, children’s activities, parachuters, flyovers, food vendors, a museum row and tours of the adobe.  You might also get to meet Dick Ferris who was the 1910 Air Meet event planner, Louis Paulhan and Glen Curtiss.  Come join us for the unique celebration!

June 12th

11am to 5pm with activities throughout the day including tethered balloon rides, ferris wheel, flyovers every 30 minutes from 11:15am to 4pm, display of antique cars and plans, tours of the Adobe, food vendors including Kogi and Tommy Burger, PBS Sid the Science Kid, flight simulators from Flight Path Learning Center, and much, much more.

Parking will be at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills and the fee is $5 per car.  Shuttles will run every 15 minutes from the University to the Museum and back.  The first shuttle leaves at 10:45am and the last shuttles leaves the Museum at 5pm. The last shuttle to leave the University is at 3:30pm.

There will also be shuttle that will pick people up at the Del Amo Metro Station every hour on the hour at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.

The Dominguez Family Legacy DVD is available in our Museum Gift Shop for only $20.  This is the first time that all the three branches of the family (Watson, Carson and Del Amo) come together on film to talk about the Dominguez family and their legacy.  The documentary is dynamic and full of rich historical facts and combines colorful interviews with historians and community leaders in addition to the Dominguez family descendants. Come hear about what it means to be one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, their experiences, and the legacy they have left.  The Tuskegee Airmen representatives will be joined by a couple of the young pilots of the Tomorrow Aeronautical Museum who will share why the Tuskegee Airmen are their inspiration.  This event will take place at the Carson Community Center in Room 122 ABC on the Eastside of the Center.
