Volunteer Sunday

Touch history by helping out in the museum by working in the museum collections. People can help by working in the archives and in the museum rooms.  You get to work with artifacts and learn history at the same time.  Call to make a reservation to be a part of volunteer Sunday.

Calling all new volunteers!

The Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum is currently seeking dynamic and dedicated individuals interested in connecting people to early California history to join the Museum’s volunteer team.  Dominguez volunteers lead the public and school on tours, assist with morning school tours, work with children and families in our activity series, assist with special events, work in the collections with the artifacts, work on projects from home, and serve as ambassadors for the museum and its programs.

For more information, please give the museum a call at (310) 603-0088.

2009 Mother’s Day Tea

The Museum hosted its 2nd annual Mother’s Day Tea with close to 200 people attending.  The event was held outside on the lawn area in front of the adobe and featured live guitar music and a flamenco dance performance by Janice Guerrero Grossman who enthralled the audience with the story of Maria Engracia Dominguez, the matriarch of the Dominguez family.  It was a beautiful event and we look forward to hosting in 2010 on May 8th.

Father’s Day Adobe Brick Making Activity

As part of the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum’s Weekend Rancho Activity series, the “Adobe Brick making activity” is a fun and interactive workshop for children to learn how to make adobe bricks.  Each brick can be personalized as a gift for their father for Father’s Day.  Appropriate for ages 5 and up.  Reservations are required.

Adobe Brick Making Activity

How many times do you get to go to a museum to get dirty?

Not many so have some fun and join us at the Museum for our Adobe Brick Making activity on Sunday, June 14th at 1pm.  Children (and adults) will learn all about working with adobe and get a chance to get their hands dirty making adobe bricks.  Everyone will squish a little history as they use adobe clay from the Rancho to make their bricks.

We’ll have adobe brick making, clay sculpting, and “de-mudding” stations available.  Everyone will leave with their own personalized brick and the brick mold so you can create your own adobe creations at home.  Children can even craft a brick to give to their Dad as  Father’s Day gift the following weekend.

The activity is on Sunday, June 14th, 1pm to 3pm.  It is appropriate for ages 5 and up. For more information and reservations, please give the museum a call at (310) 603-0088.
